Welcome to the web site of the Imperial Court of Halifax, the Atlantic Canada chapter of the International Court System. The Court System is a growing organization, now with chapters in Canada , the USA , Mexico and the United Kingdom . It all began in San Francisco in the 1960s, and was mainly a deliberately 'camp' entertainment, hence the ever-so-slightly melodramatic system of titles and the courtly structure itself. Since then the community service role of the organization has become an increasingly important side of what we do, but it's all still done in a spirit of fun. The highlight of our year - the annual coronation - sees new officials, including our Emperor and Empress, crowned. And throughout the year you'll see court members getting together for official and not-so-official functions. As representatives of the Court, our primary goals are:

1) to further relationships with businesses and organizations within our local communities

2) to hold functions and fundraisers to benefit the communities

3) to help those in the community who are in need of our assistance Each year our organization contributes tens of thousands of dollars to local community services as well as to National and International causes such as the Pink Ribbon Campaign. The Court System is open to everyone. Our membership comes from every part of society - lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and heterosexual. A person's gender, lifestyle or mode of dress has no bearing on being a member of the court 'family'. Whether you just want to be 'part of the family', or to make an active contribution to the social or community service sides of what we do, your involvement will be truly welcome.
